Engine and Performance
The Honda Accord's standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine outperforms the turbo engine of the Nissan Altima. Under the hood, the Honda Accord packs a lot of punch, generating 192-horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. The engine of the Nissan Altima falls slightly short in power levels, generating 188-horsepower and 180 pound-feet.
The Honda Accord is also the more commuter-friendly choice, being able to cruise for longer distances in cities before requiring a stop at the service station. If you want to enjoy even more efficiency in your drive, you can opt for the available Honda Accord Hybrid. As of now, neither the Altima nor any other Nissan sedan have hybrid options.
Interior
When driving to work in Scranton, you will appreciate how much more spacious the Honda Accord is over this worthy challenger from Nissan. The Honda Accord contains a passenger volume of up to 105.9 cubic feet, closer to that of a small SUV, with 16.7 cubic feet of trunk space. The Nissan Altima falls drastically short in this regard, with an interior passenger volume of 100.8 cubic feet and 15.4 cubic feet of trunk space. The passenger volume of the Altima is also less equally distributed, with the Honda Accord having more second-row legroom for your backseat passengers.
To help keep you and your copilot as comfortable as possible up front, the Honda Accord comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control. This feature is available on the Nissan Altima, but only on higher, more expensive trim levels.
Safety and Technology
The Honda Accord and Nissan Altima both come standard with a few similar driver-assist features which help prevent accidents using cameras and sensors. Many of these features can take control of vehicle functions to prevent collisions, while some keep you alerted as you drive. Standard Honda Sensing driver-assist technologies include the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow, and the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS).
Several of these features have equivalents which are standard on the Altima. However, most comparable features to ACC, RDM, LKAS, and TSR are only available on more expensive Nissan Altima trim levels.
While both these sedans feature auto off/on headlights to keep the battery power from draining, all trims of the Honda Accord utilize LED light bulbs, which produce a more vibrant light and are more energy efficient. The Nissan Altima continues to offer the more outdated halogen bulbs as the standard for their exterior lighting, wth LED bulbs only available on higher trim levels.
