What to Know About the LATCH System

Being a parent is a challenge, and one issue that every new parent faces is correctly installing a car seat. Fortunately, the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system makes it easy to do so, and at Matt Burne Honda, we want you to be aware of how it works.

The LATCH system contains hardware installed into the vehicle to which the car seat is attached to. It eliminates a lot of the guesswork involved in putting one in. It's not necessary to use the system for rear-facing car seats, but it is required if the car seat is forward-facing.

Since 2015, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has evaluated vehicles based on how easy the LATCH system is to use. The system rates how easy it is to get to lower anchors and tether anchors. It also measures the force needed to install a seat.
