Tips to help you drive in the winter

Driving in winter in Scranton can be difficult, but it will be easier if you follow some of these tips for winter driving.

  • Make sure your windshield and all your windows are completely clear of snow and ice. It's hard enough driving in the snow, but it's made more difficult when your visibility is hampered.
  • Adjust your speed for the conditions. It takes longer to stop when the roads are snow-packed, so you should slow down and increase your following distance.
  • Try to avoid coming to a complete stop on a hill. Unless you have four-wheel drive, it can be very difficult to get going on an incline on ice and snow.
  • Keep a winter emergency kit in your car. It should contain food, water, blankets, a flashlight and a number of other items.
